The Power Of Our Thoughts
"All that you accomplish or fail to accomplish with your life is the direct result of your thoughts. You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you."
James Allen (1864 - 1912)
This quote by James Allen is just one of the numerous ways that people have expressed their belief that our thoughts create our lives. And you may have heard or read other quotes, basically saying the same. Even the Buddha had this to say about the power of our thoughts:
"What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday, and our present thoughts build our life of tomorrow: Our life is the creation of our mind. Your worst enemy cannot harm you as much as your own unguarded thoughts. But once mastered, no one can help you as much." Buddha (568 - 488 BC)
As an NLP trainer, I presuppose that we are in charge of our thoughts. This means that, as the Buddha above says, we create our life by how we think. It also means that, if we're in charge of our thoughts, we're in charge of the results we get. The problem, though, is: how do we change our thinking, especially if we're so used to think negative thoughts? If you don't believe me when I say we're used to negative thinking, just switch on the TV or glance at the newspapers. Negativity abounds in those media. One way that helped me to switch from negative to more positive thinking is... ...Gratitude. Being grateful for what I have now, for example, puts me very firmly in the here and now. And what's really interesting is, when I'm grateful I feel happy and contented. Right in the moment. When thinking positively you feel positive and this means you do more positive things. And when you experience more positive results as a consequence, you will have more positive beliefs which will in turn again affect your thinking. And overall, your life will be so much more positive. Recently, we laid my father-in-law to rest. And it occurred to me that life is too short to be miserable and unhappy. Your life is too precious to be fearful or worrying about things that haven't happened yet. And we don't really have time to complain about other people's shortcomings. There are various NLP skills to help you change from thinking and feeling negative

Nlp Tips # 2-The hidden benefits of NOT Getting Your Goals
Now !
Today’s Tip is about hidden benefits..
Now by that I don't mean the sort of hidden benefits that the central banks are dishing out to each other.
It's more subtle than that. Let's jump right in and take a look When I'm working with a team or an individual and they are not getting the results or the changes they say they want
I always ask them this question. it's a little bit unusual... "What are the benefits of NOT achieving this?" It could be that - They didn’t have to do what they say they will do - They aren’t held accountable - They get to moan about how terrible things are - They get to stay in what is comfortable & familiar -It may be that they get a sympathetic ear from other people about their "struggle"... These are all ‘hidden benefits’ that they would have to find other ways to get if they achieved their goal. There are always hidden benefits In almost any situation, there will be hidden benefits. If these benefits are uncovered, you can find other ways to satisfy them AND achieve your goals more easily. However, if you are not aware of the hidden benefits of a situation, it can make it more of a struggle to change. So, with regard to a current goal you wish to achieve or change you wish to make… Ask yourself "What are the benefits of NOT doing this?"
and pay attention to your answers. You can look for other hidden benefits by asking "What am I getting from the current situation?" The answers you give yourself about these questions may seem a bit strange or perhaps even embarrassing, but once you've identified them, you can begin to find new ways to still get these hidden benefits AND achieve your goal. Every benefit addresses a need or want A benefit is only a benefit if it addresses a need or want, so the next step is to identify the needs or wants that the hidden benefit is supplying. You can ask "What is the need or want that this benefit is satisfying?" Anthony Robbins talks about six basic human needs, so if you’re having trouble identifying the need or want, check this list for inspiration. Robbins’ six are paraphrased as follows: - Love & connection to other people - Contribution to something bigger such as your family or community. A cause that you are passionate about - Predictability, familiarity & security - Unpredictability & surprise - Growth & learning. Personal development. - A sense of importance One of the presuppositions of NLP is that every behaviour has a positive intention. Now The presuppositions of NLP are not necessarily true, but it is useful to act as if they are true in certain situations. It can be very freeing to realise that there has been a positive intention behind something you have been perceiving as "failure" or ‘bad’ or ‘wrong’. Once you know which needs or wants you’ve been satisfying, you can dream up many more even better ways to feel satisfied in the future. So imagine what it will be like to ask yourself
"How can I still get these benefits while I’m achieving my goal?"
And then ask yourself that question. The odds are that once you start to contemplate new ways of doing things, you’ll often come up with even more ways of getting those benefits than the ones you currently have. Sometimes people will say that there is no benefit in the current situation. NOW, If that happens, check how long things have been the way they are. If it’s more than a few weeks, then the hidden benefits should be familiar. And...With regard to not getting your goal… Ask "What are the benefits of NOT achieving this?"
to identify hidden benefits of the current situation. Ask "What is the need or want that this benefit is satisfying?" Ask "How can I get this benefit while I’m achieving my goal?"
to identify better ways of satisfying the wants & needs. Remember to use your imagination – there’s always another way of meeting your wants and needs.

NLP Tips and NLP Videos
NLP Tips and videos
Hi and welcome to NLP tips and NLP videos.
My goal is to create a useful and easily actionable tip for you to use every day for the next 12 months and maybe longer. Who knows where this may lead us to ?
Anyway please enjoy and I am encouraging you to comment and perhaps even like what get's posted here.
I have deliberately kept most of the videos to less than twenty minutes in length which means that by the end of the twelve month program you won't have spent enough time learning NLP to qualify as a practitioner. That takes 126 hours. You will only have done 121.
However all that said you will know one heck of a lot about NLP and how to apply it in just about any area of your life.
This includes relationships, business, sales, education, teaching and learning, family and friends, your community, health and fitness, sex, coaching counseling, therapy and change work plus your own personal development.
Did I miss anything out. Probably !
If you're not sure if you can apply NLP to your areas of life or just what you're curious about then you can contact me via the contact Mike page. Usually I will reply to you within 24 hours unless I'm travelling.
Cheers,
Mike

An Ode to Your Brain
An Ode To Your Brain
I came across this video on You Tube and have to share it with you. It's called "Ode to the Brain" and I think it is wonderful.
A simple 3 minute and 42 second introduction to Neurology set to music and beautiful images.
your brain stores masses of information. The human brain is a mass of jelly you can hold in your hand and yet it can contemplate the vastness of interstellar space.
The brain encodes what we know in cells called Neurons and there is something like 100 Trillion neural connections
Your brain contains the equivalent of 20 million volumes of information and has been described as a very big place inside a very small space.
Information flows in as energy and explodes into a sensory experience.
No longer at the mercy of the reptile brain we can change ourselves. Think of the possibilities
mp3: http://symphonyofscience.com "Ode to the Brain" is the ninth episode in the Symphony of Science music video series. Through the powerful words of scientists Carl Sagan, Robert Winston, Vilayanur Ramachandran, Jill Bolte Taylor, Bill Nye, and Oliver Sacks, it covers different aspects the brain including its evolution, neuron networks, folding, and more. The material sampled for this video comes from Carl Sagan's Cosmos, Jill Bolte Taylor's TED Talk, Vilayanur Ramachandran's TED Talk, Bill Nye's Brain episode, BBC's "The Human Body", Oliver Sachs' TED Talk, Discovery Channel's "Human Body: Pushing the Limits", and more.

Chemically engineered intelligence ?
There are serious ethical questions surrounding this video I came across on Facebook.
Our values as a society will determine which psychopharmaceuticals and (down the road) which genetic enhancement technologies we choose to develop and how we use them.
That's what concerns Dr. Paul Root Wolpe, senior Bioethicist at NASA and a pioneer in the field of neuroethics. Peering into his children's and grandchildren's future, he sees an America that rewards competitiveness and productivity over relationship-building, and suspects that future generations will face intense pressure to enhance their minds and bodies in unhealthy ways.
The politics of technophilia vs technophobia aside, our power to manipulate our brains and genes is increasing dramatically – and it raises serious ethical questions.
Here is a link to the rest of the article. If you have any interest in Neurology or NLP you'll find it fascinating. Enjoy..

Why you need mirror neurons to make NLP skills work...
http://nlp-courses.org
The basis of all NLP skills and all communication between individuals and species comes from our mirror neurons. Found in the frontal cortex of the brain they will light up when someone else does some sort of action.
It is through the copying actions that we emulate in others that we learn how to use speech and tools and cultural structures. In short, without mirror neurons you would be unable to understand the video or what is written here.
Scientists now think that mirror neurons emerged in humans approximately 100,000 years ago and allowed us to create fire, tools and agriculture as well as shelter and language.
Mirror neurons also allow us to experience empathy even when just observing another individual.
NLP is more than just types of communication skills..
NLP is...?
In a recent survey of NLP practitioners, they were asked to answer the question "What makes NLP great ?"
The instructions said that they could only answer with one word.
Here are some of the answers and a video too that I uploaded to YouTube
According to the survey, NLP is.
Celebration
Insight
NLP is Fascination and exciting
It's about attitude, connection and well being
Success
Enlightenment and
Empowerment
NLP is awareness, self accountability and faith
For others NLP is the Meta model ( relax you'll be learning about that tomorrow ) reframing and
Empowerment.
Discovery connection, growth and change were other answers that we got. As was future hope, freedom and rapport.
Yet others responded by saying that for them NLP is positive, illumination, choice and contentment. Understanding and new life choice was one answer. ( Some respondents were so excited that they needed more than one word...Nuff said ! )
Most said that increased awareness and relationships are part of what NLP is..
So there you have it... It has begun or maybe something just ended ?
What would you like NLP to be great for for you ? Let me know with your comments..
And I hope you enjoyed the video because that describes what is great about my experiences of.. @expono @evernote @facebook @hi5 @identi @jaiku @kewego @kodak @myspace @photobucket @plaxo @plerb @smugmug @sugarsync @tinypic @wordpress @yahoo @zooomr

Where do leaders get their leads from ?
http://transformingleaders.net/blog/2011/11/23/where-do-leaders-get-their-leads-from/
The Scottish comedian Billy Connelly once asked
“How does the person that drives the snow plough get to work in the morning ?”
It’s a provocative question that forces you to consider all of the options.
Perhaps they get to work on a skiddoo or by sleigh. Maybe they have husky’s or reindeer to get them there. A secret tunnel perhaps.
I’m sure that you can come up with dozens of other possibilities on this.
I figure that a smart snow plough driver takes the machine home with them. That’s what allows them to clear snow. Being in that prepared state at all times. Having the equipment ready so that they can fulfill their role.
It’s a bit like leadership isn’t it.
Leaders tap into their own place inside that allows them to lead from. They have their own machinery that they carry with them that allows them to lead. It’s not physical machinery. It’s an attitude of this has to be done and I will take on the role of doing it. I will be prepared in every way I can so that this will be done.
Where do leaders get their lead from ?

NLP skills-Pointing exercise part 2----So what happened and why ?
NLP skills-Pointing exercise 2-So what happened and why ?
http://www.transformingcommunication.com An explanation of how NLP skills are used to change the results that you get simply by changing the way that you talk to your self.
Evelyne explains what Michael did when he took our trainees through the pointing exercise at a live NLP training in Thailand. The nlp pointing exercise gives you insights into some of the ways that you can use NLP to alter not just how you experience your life. You can also positively affect the results that you get simply by using the right messages. And not just with your self either...
The NLP pointing Exercise-Try this at home !!
The pointing exercise is a nice metaphor for how NLP works. Inside that is. This video was shot in the lounge of our home in Thailand when we ran a transforming communication course for our friends over a four day period. You can find out more at http://www.transforming communication.com where we have the worlds first online version of this evolutionary training.
It is based on the work of Dr Richard Bolstad and the late Margot Hamblett, the co-creators of the original offline course.
As I say in the title. Please please try this at home so you can join the thousands of others who have been amazed by themselves...
Life is better when it's fun,
NLP Eye accesssing cues...
http://www.transformingcommunication.com
A Demonstration of how different eye movements show which part of the brain is being used to access memories or to create internal representations. This is one of the nlp skills that are taught on nlp courses and in our transforming communication course.
It is useful when communicating with others if you know their preferred method for accessing information. Sometimes people are "reversed."
Watch Evelyne's eyes and see where they go as I ask questions of her.

Transforming leaders Inspire
http://transformingleaders.net/blog/2011/11/17/transforming-leaders-inspire/
I have been pondering even more on what leadership really is and have realised a few things, here.
Many present day politicians talk about their plan. Very few talk about their dream. Their vision for the future of the community.
Landmark education states that to get somebody to do something you must touch move and inspire them. So how do you do that ?
Landmark says that everything in this world only exists in the realm of possibility. There are no definites in life. No sure fire winners despite what the talking heads of advertising tell you. There is no tooth fairy either.
Sorry… that was your mum and dad.!
So how do you create a compelling message that the world will be touched moved and inspired by ?
How about if you were to discover a possibility you could create for your self that other people also resonate with and could get inspired by. I believe, from memory that the way you put it is this.
“To create a possibility for yourself in just such a way that other people get that possibility for them self”
By the way a possibility is just a vision and maybe you can use this frame for creating your vision statements.
So let’s unpack what’s going on here. (Linguistically that is ) and then I’ll look at the emotional aspects of transformational leadership. There are some presuppositions in the sentence. The first being that there are possibilities out there and that You can create them. The other inherent presupposition is that these possibilities will be so powerful that they will not only touch, move and inspire you . They will inspire others enough that they will “get it” that it’s possible for them too.
So what are some of the qualities of inspirational leadership?
1/ It’s not about you. No truly great leader ever did anything that was overtly for them. Those that did are called dictators. Think…Ghandi
2/ The possibility has to be bigger than what one person can achieve alone. If it was a solo effort how would you need others to become involved ?
3/ It shall be for the greater good of not just your group, tribe, race or creed but for the greatest good of humankind. Anything else ends up as being the slippery slope to conflict.
4/ Your Vision ( possibility..) must align with the dreams, ethics and values that are common to all of us. eg: Love, fairness, equality and freedom of choice…
5/ The vision should involve an element of courage on your part and empower others to feel courageous too. For example medicin sans frontiers
6/ The vision shall give people the possibility of being heroic in some way. Consider if you will what it took to stand in front of a tank in Tainamen Square. this is extreme I know but somebody got inspired enough to do it.
7/ The transforming leader will create possibilities that increase the choices for those that choose to follow them.
One of the other important things to consider is that until you have honed the skills needed to inspire others to take action you won’t have much impact. Ethical sales are very much part of what it takes to lead others.
The first sale is to you..! Only when you are certain that you are aligned with all of your values and with the ethics of your tribe can you have the positive impact you want to be.
Once you have done that and only after you have done that can you…
Allow yourself to dream big dreams. Massive visions.
But not for you alone.
Become the dreamer for your world.
Why must transforming leaders inspire others ?
http://transformingleaders.net/blog/2011/11/17/why-must-transforming-leaders-inspire-others/
Why must transforming leaders inspire others ? It may seem like a silly and obvious question but have you ever stopped to consider the answer ?
First before I answer the question let’s take a look at the environment that the world occupies right now.The average person in the street is BOMBARDED with over 10,000 bits of advertising every day. Things like posters, billboards, signage on shops and vehicles, advertisements in magazines, newspapers, fliers blowing down the street, TV and radio advertising. And then there’s the internet. banners, Google adsense, graphics and videos. Plus the ever present SPAM from some guy on Russia who’s trying to convince you you need to upgrade your sexual abilities. (Actually they do that on TV now too )
Now here’s the question for you.
How much of what this barrage of bull promises, do people really believe ?
What is the factor that seperates out the stuff they do believe from the tacky LOUD lies being pumped into their consciousness.
The answer is inspiration. Inspiration and perceived achievability. So what this means that while it may be possible for you, to climb Mount Everest, the odds are that your tribe may not. And why would they want to ? It’s cold and dangerous and there are no shops or restaurants there in which they can be seen being successful. It also requires planning and blocking out periods of time where they won’t be able to do normal things like spend time with the family.
So for your average Joe or Joanne in the street they’re not generally looking for anything too taxing. This is why retail therapy is one of the most popular sports on the planet. People get to play dress up and can pretend that they are rich, glamorous and desirable.
So I think we agree that Inspiring others to change their behaviour is an up hill task. It must either be something that they are motivated to do because of a perceived injustice ( Occupy Wall Street is an example of this. The Vietnam war was another ) or because of a shared sense of impending doom ( global warming ).
There is a third possibility and that is “The great transformation and redemption” ( charismatic Christianity and Islamic jihads ).
Getting kudos from great deeds done in the service of humankind is a combination of all of the above. Often this ocurs on an internal level in people and people such as Mother Theresa of Calcutta and Albert Schweitzer spring to mind. Thomas Jefferson and the other founders of the United States of America are examples of this.
They had a common enemy King George of England. ( The great injustice )
There was a seemingly impossible task ( the ordeal ) creating a seperate nation that was independent.
There would be a great transformation through the principles of freedom , liberty and equality.
It went beyond th egeographical boundaries or the USA and reached out to all the people of the Earth which means it transcended traditional boundaries of national identity . Eventually it transcended ( in theory anyway ) race and religion.
It was the classic example of loss and redemption. The heros Journey.
“The hero with a thousand faces” by Joseph Campbell is an excellent examination of this idea.
As you may have worked out there are many aspects that go to make up becoming a transforming leader and I intend to tease them out for you in future articles which I will publish.
If you want to contact me about anything written here you can do so via my contact page or by commenting below..

Most marketing relies on shotgun tactics.
People fire randomly at the crowd without knowing who or what their target audience is.The result is frustration on the part of the marketer and boredom (or worse) from the poor person who is getting this stuff rammed down their throat.
Imagine if you would, being in tune with someone's internal radio and that you are the station playing the music they are looking forward to listening to.
NLP marketing is playing your song right now...!If you tune in

Why spend time tuning into your markets frequency? It sounds like a silly question but it's surprising how few businesses spend time on this.
And to do this effectively first YOU have to tune in to what your audience is transmitting to you...

n this 3rd video in my series on NLP training and useful ways you can use your brain.
I’m going to describe a simple way that you can use to work out whether your goals are going to be in your best interests. We often plan stuff out without considering the ecology of the plan or the results we will get.

In this 3rd video in my series on NLP training and useful ways you can use your brain. I’m going to describe a simple way that you can use to work out whether your goals are going to be in your best interests. We often plan stuff out without considering the ecology of the plan or the results we will get.
Ecology is the study of consequences. An example of this is the deforestation of the Amazon rain forest and the subsequent loss of up to 30% of that rich habitat through the process of erosion of topsoil and desertification.
Indigenous in Amazon Rainforest.

I describe how the way you say things to yourself will affect everything from your stress levels through to, well, everything.
If you follow the steps I describe I won’t guarantee you success. It’s just that you strongly increase the odds in your favour.
Check it out and remember to comment here on the blog and to like the video…
Thanks in advance and the sooner you start using this stuff the quicker you’ll get the results.
By the way my next video will be about how you can improve and increase your resources in five minutes or less. Anywhere, any time. How useful will that be to you ?

Charlie Chaplin Demonstrates NLP Congruence
NLP Congruence ?
The greatest speech ever made. Charlie Chaplin plays the great dictator and in the current state of our world I would urge you to watch and listen to what is actually a truly inspirational piece of oratory.
During the era of McCarthyism, Chaplin was accused of "un-American activities" as a suspected communist by J. Edgar Hoover. When Hoover learned of Chaplin's trip to England in 1952, he negotiated with the Immigration and Naturalization Service to revoke Chaplin's re-entry permit, exiling Chaplin so he could not return to the US for his alleged political leanings. In 1972, Chaplin was given special permission to come out of exile to accept the Honorary Academy Award for "the incalculable effect he has had in making motion pictures the art form of this century". Stepping onto the stage of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Chaplin received the longest standing ovation in Academy Award history, lasting a full twelve minutes.
Chaplin talks of those who preach freedom and practice oppression. Of the soldiers who fight for freedom for those who would enslave the hearts minds and bodies of humanity.
He makes the spirit soar in this which in my humble opinion is Chaplins best ever performance. And that is because Charlie is speaking from his heart. He chose exile in Switzerland away from the bright lights because his political views did not match those of the establishment.
It is this that makes Charlie Chaplin so inspiring.
In NLP terms he is totally congruent. The conversations and beliefs he has are totally aligned with the words that he speaks.
Enjoy the inspiration from someone who was known as the funniest man on earth.

“Notice that the stiffest tree is most easily cracked, while the bamboo or willow survives by bending with the wind.”

Think about this and notice areas in your life where you could be more flexible. Then notice the difference in the results that you can get when you are more flexible in your attitude and your actions.
One of the presuppositions of NLP is that the system ( or person) with the most flexibility controls the system.
Now think about that !

NLP Persuasion
NLP Persuasion
Persuasion appears simple. And it is when you know how.
NLP persuasion is more than just words and smiles though both of those things do help.
But there is more. ! You see when you are congruent with not just yourself but also completely aligned with your market or audience things get so much easier.
To have those conversations with who and what they really want because you know who and what they really are can be challenging. That's why I spent years learning NLP persuasion.
You don't have to be curious about what else you can learn here. You are in charge of all your results after all. And it's not necessary to experience that you are right about that. If you want different results then come back here for more .
